Anne Gill the Chairman of Devon Folk presented the 2011 Devon Folk award to Clare Penney during the July Singaround at the Cruwys Arms, Pennymoor.
Clare received the award in recognition and appreciation of her efforts in Mid-Devon over the last thirty years promoting folk music and song, fostering new talent and encouraging beginners. An advocate of community involvement and of equal opportunity for all participants, her forte is in creating opportunities for others to flourish. Clare has been the leading light in the organisation of the Pennymoor Singaround, including various outreach events to support local good causes, the associated annual 'Song and Ale' and the free Bampton Festival 'After the Fair'. She has established a strong bond between folk groups in Mid-Devon, Brittany and Ireland and, in 2011, arranged and led a Folk Trail from Land's End to John O'Groats, creating a record of current national folk music and song for future generations. |
